Insanity Workout Day 3 - Cardio Power & Resistance
My whole body hurts.
I forgot how much these work outs kicked my ass. Especially when all I’ve really been doing for the past few months is just running once or twice a week. Not being as active as I should have been. My body and muscles just aren’t used to this.
Hey, please don't think I'm coming off as an asshole! I don't mean for it to sound that way! but I think you can definitely kick the bad foods before the holidays are over. I've decided to eat as healthy as I can for the last few months while exercising daily the the progress is amazing. Its tough to not eat that stuff, but you feel so much better after eating something healthy. Once you kick the habit of junkfood, its so much easier to avoid it.
It really isn’t so much the eating bad part. I can and will dump the crap again. It is more all the beer I know I’m going to consume over the next few weeks. I’m too much of an alcoholic/binge/social drinker to give that up.
Over the summer, I primarily eat primal/paleo and absolutely loved it. I still had a ton of energy, which some people complain about, and never felt better.
Once the holiday’s are over I know I’m going to cut back on the drinking too. But I also know myself enough to know I’m not going to cut back on that now especially when I have a bunch of parties to go to between now and new years.
But you are 100% right that once you kick the habit it is a lot easier to avoid it. And no you didn’t come off as an asshole at all.
I was all set to order a salad for lunch today when someone suggested a pizza.
Fuck yeah. I wanted that pizza.
Though I didn’t stuff myself, only had 3 slices.
My new theory is to continue to work out every morning through the holidays. But since I know I’m going to eat bad at the Christmas parties I’m going to go to I mind as well say fuck it until after they are all over.
I know, it is a piss poor theory. But just as long as I get in the habit of working out before work again I’ll be fine. Eventually I’ll correct my diet to go along with it.
Insanity Workout Day 2 - Plyometric Cardio Circuit
I forgot how tough this work out was. I am totally wiped out.
It’s amazing how quickly one can get out of shape. Damn you beer!!!!
But I stuck with it for another day and will hopefully keep with it tomorrow. It takes a week or two to turn something into a routine. I do like getting up early as I’m not still asleep now at work. Makes me feel so much better.
Trying to get back into a healthy lifestyle just isn't easy
So I started another round of Insanity this morning but now my brother wants to get some beers after work. One of the bars we go to every so often is having a guest brewery come in and well how the Hell can I say no to this?
I’m just hoping I don’t drink too much so I will still wake up early tomorrow morning.
But I was good this morning. I finally got up early before work and started another round of Insanity.
This morning was just the fit test to see where I am. Sadly I’m no where near where I was before, during the summer, when I was updating this blog more regularly.
Hopefully I can start the routine and get form the habit of waking up before work. Since my knee has been hurting from running this will be good for me. Not only will I lose a few lbs but I’ll also strengthen the muscles around my knee.
What sort of changes have you noticed through the primal lifestyle I have been using it on and off for a couple of weeks and noticed less mood swings and more energy. How about you?
I’ve never been one for mood swings but when I first started going primal I noticed that I just felt a lot healthier. I definitely had more energy and just felt better over all. My cravings for junk food went away and life was good.
The last week or so I haven’t been doing so well and that’s probably why I’ve been feeling like crap. This weekend I drank too much and ate like crap.
My goal is to eventually do one under 20 minutes. I still have a little work to do to accomplish that.
But for now I’m happy with 22:46. That is my best time so far and it comes on one of the hottest days of the year. I probably shouldn’t have ate eggs for breakfast yesterday 2 hours before the race. Coming down the stretch I felt like I was going to throw up and couldn’t push myself at the finish line.
Running another 5k tonight after work. I’ll see how that goes.
Great work out. A lot of lunges, some squats, and more pull ups.
My legs still feel like jelly right now. But in a good way.
I’m going away for the weekend. Going to bring my laptop and P90X with me so hopefully I can do KempoX tomorrow morning sometime. Plus I like to run early in the mornings before anyone else is awake in my group. Gets me going early.
I know from before when I tried to do the Yoga I was just bored out of my mind and didn’t enjoy it what so ever. So I figured what is the point of trying it again.
So instead I did the 1st half of chest and back and ab ripper X.
I didn’t repeat all the exercises like I did in day 1. I just wanted to do something this morning rather than nothing. I was thinking about doing the Kempo X or Cardio X but I ran up a mountain last night, around 4 miles up and down, and my legs are shot right now.
Though I might still run tonight. But at least I’ll have the whole day to rest my legs.
Redsox are playing at 1:35. I almost love afternoon baseball. Makes my day go by so much faster at work having them to listen too.
Golfing at 4, Redsox game may or may not be over by then. But I’m okay with that. I golf every Wednesday for my league. Which makes work tough since all I think about is going golfing. Hopefully I can continue my streak of shooting in the 40s. Maybe one of these days I’ll shoot a round of 9 in the 30s. That’ll be the day.
I’m going to finish up the night by running up and down a small local “mountain.” I want to get my legs stronger for the Tough Mudder I’m doing in July. It is less than 3 weeks away at this point and I still want to get that much stronger and better by then. I’m pretty sure it is about a mile up. I want to do this run a few more times before the Tough Mudder.
Boy are my arms sore right now. After doing chest and back on Monday and then this one today they are quite sore. The change up from Insanity is doing wonders for me. Keeps me motivated to do something else for a change.
Tomorrow is Yoga, not quite sure how I feel about that routine. Even when I did it last time I would always do something else. I’m actually thinking of going golfing tomorrow morning instead of P90X. Figure walking 9 holes is between 3-4 miles and the course opens at 6am.
I remember this being a lot harder when I attempted to do P90X last year.
But after doing Insanity for 30 days this wasn’t as tough as I remember. It still kicked my ass and my legs, specifically my quads, still feel like jelly right now. Though I got through the entire work out with minimal breaks, sometimes stopping 2 or 3 seconds before the 30 second intervals were to be over.
Though my legs were sore from running last night. Which also didn’t help matters either.
Last week was a lost week. I still worked out here and there but not I have been doing and should have been doing. I ate like crap and drank WAYYYY too much.
Today is a new week, well technically yesterday started the new week, but that is just semantics.
It is a new day and the start of a new work out.
This morning I started P90X. Did chest, back, and ab ripper X.
Granted this isn’t even close to the cardio work out that Insanity is but I don’t think I need that as much. I’m still going to be running a few times a week plus P90X has a plyometric and cardio kick boxing work out. So I’ll still get plenty of cardio.
But my arms haven’t hurt like this in a long time. Push and pull to the max.
Besides, I have 30 days to increase my upper body strength for my 1st Tough Mudder in a month.
I did a modified version of P90X this morning instead of Insanity. I want to start it on a Monday so I can keep a schedule better and have my rest day on the weekend. So this morning I just did one round of Chest and Back and ab ripper X. Figured it would get my muscles going and it wouldn’t be technically starting it.
But I can do a lot more push ups and pull ups than I thought I could. Felt great doing it.
Plus I figure I have probably already lost enough weight and I need to start putting on more muscle. So switching from Insanity to P90X will be good for me.
I did the plyometric cardio circuit. I’m just now realizing I was supposed to do the power and resistance one. I’ll have to do do the power and resistance video tomorrow. Don’t think it is necessarily a bad thing to switch things like that. I’ll have to pay more attention next time.
Either way today kicked my ass. I felt like a regressed a bit. My legs just didn’t want to cooperate with my body this morning.
I always love pure cardio. Going straight out for 16 minutes with no rest is just lovely. My body just completely hurts right now. Good thing tomorrow is cardio recovery. My body definitely needs to recover.
On a side not, hopefully it stops raining. Tonight is my golf league and it is the one thing I really look forward to every week.
The basketball drills just completely suck. My legs are completely dead by the time of the 2nd interval nevermind the 3rd and final one. Needless to say my legs are jelly right now.
To make matters worse I forgot I used the last of my milk yesterday. So I had to mix my primal protein shake with water. Surprisingly it wasn’t horrible though. I’m still going to try and to remember to buy some milk tonight before I come home.
